I'm not a hero...I was doing what was right

I'm Matt. In case your not familiar with the entire situation i'll give you a little run down. In September 06 two students at East (Green Bay, WI) formulated a plan to essentually wipe out the school. I was very close friends with one and knew the other. By the grace of god, the one that I knew told me at lunch the day before of their plan. I should have gone right away and told the proper people but I waited until the next day. I was in a state of denial and was completely numb. I went home and explained it to my mom and she didn't believe me. I don't blame her that is that last thing you want to hear from your child and you just tell yourself it isn't true. It boiled down to me having to make the decision on my own. Mom finally told me that if I truely felt they were going to do this , to do the right thing. I went in my room and my brain became a video projector, I played out every possible cause and effect I could think of. I had no idea if it was talk or not but I wasn't going to risk it. The number one thing that really put me over the edge was the thought of me going to close to 2,000 funerals. That I can't live with knowing I could have prevented it. I have been called a hero...I'm not a hero I was just following my gut and doing what was right.

I have a little tip for all your parents out there....Trust your kids no matter how off the wall it sounds. If your child comes to you with a concern about school either address it yourself or listen and point them in the right direction.

And all you students out there....never be afraid to address your concerns to people. Don't be scared, it doesn't make you a snitch or a nark....It makes you a bteer person.

I am currently working a part time job but want to become a motivational/ public speaker on the issue of school violence. During the trial and what not I wasn't able to becasue of the trial but I want to now.
